How to choose the best IPTV player for Android TV

An IPTV player is an app that plays TV streams supplied through your own sources or playlists. A player does not automatically include a subscription, channels or permission to access content.

What do you need?

A TV being described as a “Smart TV” does not mean it runs Android TV. Check its operating system before choosing an app. Google maintains information about Android TV.

Check these details before choosing a player

Remote navigation
Can you open menus, move through lists and return to playback using only the remote? A phone interface may be awkward on a television.
Playlist support
Check the exact import methods the app supports. An M3U link and an account login are different ways of supplying source information; support for one does not establish support for the other.
Programme guide
If you need an electronic programme guide (EPG), check both the player's capabilities and whether your source provides matching guide data.
Device compatibility
Look for confirmation for your device and operating system version. Do not assume that availability on one Android device means availability on every television.
Pricing and availability
Check what is included in the app price and which features require payment. An app purchase should not be confused with a content subscription.

Player, playlist and content provider: who does what?

The player supplies the interface and playback software. A playlist points to media sources. The content provider controls those sources and any account access. If a source is unavailable, changing the player may not fix it.

Read our M3U playlist guide for a closer look at the difference.

Where does Eazy Player fit?

Eazy Player is being developed for Android TV, with planned M3U and Xtream Codes support, genre sorting and navigation designed around the remote. It will not include channels or content subscriptions.

The UI is still being developed. There is no confirmed launch date, download or published price, and device-specific compatibility has not been published. See the current development status or join the launch list.
